Girard Perregaux

In 1791 the orphaned Jean-Francois Bautte completed his education, and by the age of 19 he put his name to his first watch, it is this date that marks the birth of Girard Perregaux. The manufactory founded in Geneva was host to a number of distinguished visitors, one of whom was the future Queen of England, Victoria. At this time Bautte was one of the most celebrated watch makers in Europe.

By 1837 Jacques Bautte and Jean Samuel Rossel succeeded Jean Francis Bautte and by 1852 Constant Girard had married Marie Perregaux and it was then that the name Girard Perregaux was created, with the manufacture officially recognised in 1856.

In 1889 Girard Perregaux exhibited the famous tourbillion with three gold bridges. Many years in the making, this watch was actually considered ineligible for a prize as it was deemed too perfect, although it did win a gold medal.

Today Girard Perregaux continues the tradition of its founding fathers, producing superlative pieces for men and women.
